Learn about the original Waimea swinging cable bridge.
In the early 1900s, the only access across the Wailua River valley during heavy rains and flooding was by crossing the Waimea swinging cable bridge. It was destroyed in 1992 by Hurricane Iniki. A new suspension bridge took its place.
