Creating Depth in a Painting - Patrick Ching Art Tip - KVIC-TV, myKauai.com
Creating a sense of depth can be a challenge for artists. "To create distance, I often use mountains."
"The further away a mountain is, the more of this moist air is in the mountain, so by adding you whites, purples, and blues to your far away mountains, you can create a lot of distance in your paintings. As your painting the far-away mountains, your color range gets really small and you use bluish, purplish colors. But as things get closer to you, the brights get brighter, the darks get darker, and the things closest to us have the highest highlights and the darkest darks. "
