Sustainable You Hawaii: Kaua‘i Humane Society's Field-Trip Program
Kauai Humane Society, located on the picturesque island of Kauai, Hawaii, is dedicated to the welfare of animals and the promotion of responsible pet ownership. Under the guidance of Executive Director Nicole Schafer Crane, the organization focuses on a range of services aimed at supporting both the local community and its animals. This includes promoting pet adoptions, facilitating foster programs, and conducting transfers to ensure that as many animals as possible find loving homes.
One of the standout initiatives offered by Kauai Humane Society is the Field Trip Program. This program allows community members to take shelter dogs out for a day of adventure. Interested individuals can arrange for a dog by visiting the Kauai Humane Society website or by calling. Participants have the opportunity to pick up a dog between 10 AM and noon and are asked to return the dog by 5 PM the same day. Ideal locations for these outings include scenic spots like hiking the Sleeping Giant and the bike pathways along the stunning coast, as well as popular beach areas. Each dog is provided with a vest indicating that they are available for adoption, along with essentials such as water bottles, towels, and a backpack filled with treats for a comfortable day out.
Kauai Humane Society also provides various ways for community members to contribute, including the option to sponsor a kennel. By sponsoring, individuals can support the care of a specific dog until it is adopted. Sponsors receive updates about the dog’s well-being and the journey towards finding a forever home.
Kauai Humane Society maintains an active presence on social media, including platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and more, to keep the community informed about their ongoing initiatives, events, and animal adoptions.
